Dilemmas

PROJECT FIREDRILL got off to a pretty decent start, which I shall soon have posted up. However, it was put on hold after the demise of the first ship due to a string of discussions I had with fellow Sinner (and the only other active member of the corp), Tek Avellos. In short, we were struggling to figure out what to do in regards to the corporation and our own paths in Eve. Tek is a very loyal guy, as well as being colossally lazy when it comes to moving stuff in Eve, so he didn’t want to join another corp and have to move his stuff. I don’t have nearly as many ships, but it would still be a pain in the ass to get my hangars in order and move somewhere else.

Beyond laziness, there is also the fact that when I made Sinners., I swore to myself it would be the last corporation listed in Marc Scaurus’ employment history. I did spend some time exploring other corps that are currently recruiting, even going so far as to through out a tweet or two on the subject to the ever growing #tweetfleet. However, I was swiftly reminded just why Sinners. was made in the first place – there are no active NA TZ pirate corps that fly the way I want to (with one notable exception being the Tuskers, whose recruitment is currently on hold). Many speak to the notions that make piracy fun for me: small gangs here, some say; no gatecamps, others say; roaming and shooting the shit on comms, still more claim. But then you do your research, you look at battleclinic information and find that none of that is really true.

So, that put me in a bit of a pickle. Tek, in a lighthearted manner, threw out the suggestion that he and I rat up our security status to see about those silly carebears in the neighboring area. I gave it some serious consideration and ultimately decided to agree to it – but I had my reservations. You see, a long time ago in a place not so very far away I tried to do the very same thing with my first character, Luc. Luc joined an alliance that was friendly to CVA and shipped off in a Drake to Old Provi, where one could rat in relative peace. It did not go well, or very far. Within a short amount of time, Luc was enrolled in The Python Cartel and carrying on his piratical ways. But, Tek seemed excited so I fit up a Hound and set off for the nearest 0.0.

Which happens to be the heart of the cascading NC. I did manage to find some very empty systems after eluding hordes of PL, NCdot and other assorted alliances taking all of Morsus Mihi and company’s stuffz. However, when I did, I found I wasn’t doing much damage to the battleship rats and grew discouraged (disclaimer: my missile skills in general are not good. At all.). So I set my sights on Great Wildlands, as it is a barren backwater of systems where I could do my ratting in a much more versatile Hurricane and not feel like such a stealthy cloaky coward. I head out there the following day, bought and fit said Hurricane and went to work.

Three hours later. I was falling asleep from boredom at 8pm, having raised my sec status from -9.7 to -8.9. Three hours for less than a full point increase. And because of the sliding, percentage based scale at which sec status is gained, I ad to admit defeat once again. I am not cut out for a life of ratting and would likely find myself not logging into Eve within short order if all I did was kill rats. I have informed Tek of this development and had intended to return to Aurohunen by hoofing it in the Hound. However, the joys of 0.0 struck and I was caught in a bubble with a Nidhoggur, Abaddon and Sabre. The end was surprisingly, agonizingly slow, but it did come and I found myself in Dantumi in short order via the pod express.

Thus, I am back at square one, but this time with less options than before. Essentially, it boils down to this: fly with Tek and/or solo in perpetuity in my corner of lowsec until Tek grows bored and leaves, making me just a solo pilot; or, fire up the old recruitment speechifying and get Sinners looking respectable again. I’m sure to struggle with that decision for awhile, but in the meantime I will continue with the Project Fire Drill stuff, take part in the Second Death Race, and try to make a post here and there.

Fly Smart,

Marc
