Floating an Idea for the Eve Blogosphere
Depending on your accent, the title may actually rhyme, which will be the extent of my attempts at ‘GUD POASTIGN’ here. Instead, I just wanted to write down some thoughts and hopefully generate some discussion on an idea that has been floating in my head for some time now.
Awhile back I inherited evebloggers.com from the awesome Black Claw. My main motive for ensuring the survival of Eve’s best blogging portal was mainly selfish, I’ll admit. I love evebloggers.com as a handy way to keep tabs on the blogging community. However, I also knew that quite a few people use the site for the same reason and it feels good to be able to keep that service going.
Since taking over, I’ve been reading even more blogs – pretty much every post made on every blog listed on evebloggers.com. Yes, that’s a lot of reading, but it is also an incredibly eye opening experience for someone that really only cared about lowsec until not-so-long-ago. There is such a wealth and variety and depth of Eve experience on display out there that it seems to me sort of wrong that there isn’t much in the way of recognition.
Of course, there is the Eve Blog Pack, which seeks out to recognize the high quality, high consistency bloggers out there and has done a damn fine job of it – especially under the able leadership of its creator, CrazyKinux, and now the incomparable pirate extraordinaire Rixx Javix (Go Tuskers!). However, I would love to do a little more for the community and bring some attention to amazing posts and bloggers out there.
Thus, I would like to start handing out some monthly Eve blogosphere awards. Right now, the easiest way I can see doing this would be handing out awards in two categories: Best Post (for an individual blog post of exceptional value) and Best Blog (for a blog of exceptional value throughout the month). To figure out who would win, I would narrow it down each month to three finalists in both categories, then have a small panel of judges pick out what they think should win.
For that panel, I’m thinking myself (of course lol), Seismic Stan of Freebooted, and Ripard Teg of Jester’s Trek. This is for two reasons: I think they have been around the block enough to recognize high value and good writing; and by being judges, they would be disqualified from winning (because it wouldn’t be much fun if Ripard and Stan put together win streaks, as they would absolutely be able to do). However, I haven’t discussed this with either of them so I don’t know what their interest level would be, and the judges may be different should this come to pass.
And the award? I’d like to pick up a sponsor and hand each winner a PLEX. Why a PLEX? Well, if you are the best of the best out of the amazing Eve blogosphere for a month, I think you should essentially play that month free of charge :P Why a sponsor? I’m not anywhere near space rich enough to afford two PLEXes a month for the indefinite future.
Give me your thoughts, your feedback, your ideas members of the blogosphere. Contest name, format, awards, potential sponsors – anything and everything.
Fly Smart,
Marc
