Unveiling The Eebees

Awhile back I floated the idea of a monthly award that seeks to recognize the valiant pursuits of the Eve Blogging community, and reward them for their otherwise thankless and sometimes Herculean task of bringing out content that enriches the Nation of Eve (thanks for that phrase, Stan er CCP Pokethulhu, I will be using it for some time to come). I was not surprised to see that the idea was met with lots of support. Let’s face it; not very many bloggers can get rewards for doing what they do – and who doesn’t like rewards?

I set out immediately to setting down a rough format for the awards, as well as contacting potential judges and sponsors of the initiative. After a few weeks of doggedly pursuing this project, I am happy to announce that it will indeed be coming to fruition! Starting with the month of April, a select panel of judges will be selecting winners in two categories from among the Eve Online Blogosphere. Here are the details:

The Eebees, Brought to you by Evebloggers.com and SOMER Blink

Judges: Marc Scaurus, Ripard Teg, and Seismic Stan

Categories: Post of the Month (for best individual blog post) and Blog of the Month (for best blog over the course of the month)

Reward: 1 PLEX per winner each month, delivered by the fine folks at SOMER Blink

Rules: All blog posts having to do with Eve Online are eligible each month for selection as Post of the Month (barring media sites such as Massively.com, TenTonHammer.com, etc). All blogs having to do primarily with Eve Online are eligible each month for selection as Blog of the Month (again, barring media sites).

Selection is limited to once per category per six month period. Must have an active Eve Online account at the time of winning and be willing to inform Marc Scaurus of an active Eve Online character to which the prize will be rewarded. Prizes will be delivered in Jita by contract from SOMER Blink.

Schedule: Winners for the month of April will be determined NLT May 4th, with announcements made NLT May 5th. Prizes must be claimed (by informing Marc Scaurus of an active Eve Online character to which the prize will be delivered) NLT the end of May. This schedule will repeat each successive month.

Now, as it stands I haven’t got any sweet graphics made up yet for the winners, so if anyone wants to toss a submission in regarding that, please feel free to leave a comment here or hit me up on Twitter. Otherwise I will be forced to photoshop something incredibly corny. Winners will be announced both on this blog as well as on Evebloggers.com

Good luck to everyone, and remember: GUD POASTIGN PAYS.

Write Smart,
Marc

Edit: If anyone can think of a name I like better than ‘The Eebees’, I will gladly steal the idea.

Sigh. One more circle jerk. The blog/tweetfleet/podcast echo chamber gets more incestuous every day. Gonna start giving each other awards now. Lol. Virtual blowjobs FTW!!

Seriously if “Tiger Ears” doesn’t get an award then you have no credibility whatsoever. One of the few blogs that despite Incarna, Crucible, and Inferno has consistently ignored all the pretentious meta-bullshit and actually talked about playing the game. Like her work very much.

WTB Blogs/podcasts that actually have an in game rather than metagame focus.

Ah, the anonymous commenter spouting off their very important opinions – how I have missed you.

If you can’t find blogs with an in-game focus, you aren’t trying hard enough ;) Try evebloggers.com – quite a few in-game only blogs on there (in addition to the majority of all Eve bloggers).

I do agree with you that Tiger Ears is quite a good blog – a well deserved member of the Eve Blog Pack! We will be rewarding blogs based on their quality and excellence, no matter the subject matter. I fully expect Tiger Ears to be a front runner!

        I lol’d, though. :3

There are hundreds of Eve blogs out there, most of them you’ve probably never heard of. Far from being a circle jerk among the already popular bloggers, I see this more as a way to shine a spotlight on those blogs which have really high quality content, but have so far been under the radar.

Given that one of the judges is responsible for one of the best known in-game/in-universe podcasts currently in production (http://tech4news.org/), I think it’s fairly safe to say your pre-emptive assumption that this will be metagame biased is probably unfounded.

Azual, point taken and thank you for your excellent “Know Your Enemy” series of blogs. I already religiously read and listen to as many blogs and pod casts as I can find but the signal to noise seems to have gone way down of late.

Marc, apologies for crawling out from under my rock. Of course I am anonymous (like 95% of the audience as far as bloggers and pod casters are concerned?) and therefore my opinions, by definition, don’t matter. I just found the idea of awards given by the same few people to the same few people somewhat amusing so couldn’t resist commenting. Sorry and it won’t happen again.

I really hope you prove me wrong and that the awards do indeed spotlight some hither to little known blogs that provide insightful analysis of actual Eve game play. Good luck.

    /me crawls back under rock.

My motivation for being involved with this project is to do exactly as Azual says – to help promote some of the less mainstream blogs and spread the love. There are many enthusiastic and talented writers blogging away out there that aren’t getting the attention they deserve.

In the same way that the Blog Banters are intended to be a platform of equality giving members of the blogging community a round table discussion format, I view these awards as the community’s opportunity to give a little encouragement to those tireless voluntary content providers who are too often taken for granted.

There is only three of us though, so your help is welcomed. The more eyes, the better. If you are particularly impressed by a blogpost or a site, please feel free to alert us to it. Let’s celebrate our vast talent pool, cynical circle jerk accusations be damned.
